What To Expect
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework outlines seven areas of learning and development, divided into three prime areas and four specific areas. The prime areas are foundational, supporting children’s readiness for future learning.

The Three Prime Areas
Communication and Language
This area focuses on developing children’s skills in listening, attention, understanding, and speaking. It involves encouraging children to listen attentively, understand spoken language, and express themselves effectively.
Physical Development
Physical development emphasizes both gross motor skills (such as running and jumping) and fine motor skills (like drawing and writing). It supports children's health and well-being, promoting physical activity and coordination.
Personal, Social, and Emotional Development (PSED)
PSED involves helping children understand and manage their emotions, form positive relationships, and develop self-confidence. It lays the groundwork for social interactions and emotional well-being.
These prime areas are interconnected, each influencing the others. For example, effective communication supports social interactions, while physical development can impact emotional well-being. Fostering growth in these areas provides a solid foundation for children’s overall development and learning.

Literacy
This area emphasizes developing children's reading and writing skills. It involves encouraging children to link sounds and letters, begin to read and write, and access a wide range of reading materials to ignite their interest.
Mathematics
Mathematics focuses on providing children with opportunities to develop and improve their skills in counting, understanding and using numbers, solving simple addition and subtraction problems, and describing shapes, spaces, and measures.
Understanding the World
This area guides children to make sense of their physical world and community through opportunities to explore, observe, and find out about people, places, technology, and the environment.
Expressive Arts and Design
Expressive Arts and Design enables children to explore and play with a wide range of media and materials. It provides opportunities for sharing thoughts, ideas, and feelings through activities in art, music, movement, dance, role-play, and design and technology.
